Subject: AC/DC Power converters
Curiously, in light of all the chinese wholesaler spam here, I am
looking to order a small quantity (50) of AC (240-100V 50/60Hz) 12V DC
3A power supplies. I don't think the current 30$ /unit from North
American suppliers (Digikey, Avnet, etc) is a reasonable price. I
think 10$ is more like it.

Does anyone have experience in this? I know 50 is not a lot, it might
be 100, but I can't justify 30$.

TIA

What Chiness wholesaler spam? I have my newsreader configured to reject
anything containing the obvious keywords they use in subject headings.

Chanel Gucci Jordan Nike handbag shoes paypal wholesale

Are reasonable ones with limited prospect of collateral damage.

If you don't mind a bit of collateral damage for improved SNR

Teranews eventually honours third party cancels for most of the spammers
junk but I prefer not to clutter up my disk with dross.

Google groups is in large part now unusable thanks to Chinese spammers
and their incredibly sloppy approach to it.

I haven't blocked hotmail (yet) but blocking the Google domain has
reduced spam to zilch.

What approach? To me it seems they don't do anything about it. So,
therefore, ...

Was at a seminar yesterday (LTSpice World Tour) and was talking with
one of the guys there who used to work from Qualcomm.  He related the
story about why some of the batteries went PHHHTTT on cell phones and
laptops, which ya'll might enjoy.

It seems that Kyocera bought a section of Qualcomm that had designed
some cel phones.  They decided to outsource the production to China,
and asked for 10M units, so warned his company to expect an order for
10M parts.

Order comes in, it is for 20M parts.  They call back to confirm order,
and it is definitely 20M!  Seems the chinese manufacturer is going to
build 20M units - 10M for Kyocera, and 10M for themselves!

Then, there are problems.  batteries going PHHHTTT, fires, injuries,
etc.  When inspected, they found out that the battery protection chip
was put in 90 degrees out, so it didn't work.  Chinese manufacturer
had just blue wired around it to make the unit work, so the batteries
were being overcharged, over discharged, etc.  But, the liability is
Kyocera's!  (and Sony's, Dells, etc...)

Charlie
