I know people who teach computer science. I am unaware of any genuine scientific (or practical) content. A little math here and there maybe.

Do you mean medicine? Or biology? Or biochemistry? Or oncology? I'm not sure what "medical science" is. I don't know anyone who calls themselves a "medical scientist."
>How about physical science?
Are you referring to Physics? Chemistry? Optics? Does any university have a School of Physical Science?
Maybe "Materials Science" is a real science that uses the word "science." Maybe. But most physicists and chemists would consider it to be engineering.

Then what is the 'science' of keeping some loser from being re-elected? It took me two lawsuits to keep one from being re-elected, after he committed fraud, and 'Conversion of Property' by stealing two vehicles from my business parking lot. I got settlements in both lawsuits, and the bad publicity kicked him out of the running for an office he'd held for about 20 years.

Nobody gets a degree called "physical science." They get a gegree in Physics or Chemistry or some such, from a department of the same name. Apparently MIT has a "school of physical science", but the actual disciplines are Physics etc.
The original quote, which wasn't mine, was somewhat facetious, mocking things like political science and social science and library science, the point being that real scientists don't use the word "science" in their departments or degrees, but pseudo-scientists do.
Get grim and bitchy if it pleases you. I thought the original observation was pretty powerful.
I design electronics, and what I do is called engineering.

Grim and bitchy?

Thank God you're not a sanitation engineer ;>)

Not relevant.
Why can't one ask a question here and/or posit a few of their own ideas or advance a different point of view without getting attacked?

Yes, the pickiness and the waiting............. thing. The concept was cool, so why not go with it?

Of course it is.

It's hardly cool and is actually hackneyed.

OK, if you must know, I am a professor emiritus and once developed and taught an honor's course titled "Scientific Inquiry."

Can't imagine how to do it when folks have such thin skins.
I honestly never meant to offend you! So, with that in mind, I apologize for my poor communication skills.

There was a little bit of science in the 'Earth Science' I took in 9th grade. I do remeber weighting things in terms of 'beads' and then making graphs in the note book.

Most people who actually do "earth science" call themselves geologists.

Not gynecologists?
Sorry, I know, bad! I'm just trying to blend in with the rest of them here.
