Will Pedro, historic Yankee foil, return to the Son of the House that Ruth Built to slay the ghost of "Daddy" and come up big to help force a game 7, or will Pettitte, scion of Pinstripe Aristocracy, rise up once more, even though he is going on three days rest after a game where he admitted he had "nothing" and deliver #27?
Damn, this one has enough back story for a Tony nominee.

I heard Tom Cuddy (WBZ AM's sports guy) refer to it as the "Early Winter Classic" this morning. Pretty funny, especially if it goes to game seven and we get the weather that we're supposed to get here in the Northeast.

As a Yankee fan, I'm praying for rain. This 3-days rest plan for the pitchers is going to backfire. -- ~ Seth Jackson

Now, there ya go. How often are you gonna find two folk on opposite sides of the coin wishing for the exact same thing?
Let it rain. One day, two days if you can do it, and let game seven be Lee and CC.
Yeah but with a delay we may get to see Mr. Lee again and I don't want that. On NYYfans there's discussion over whether the 3 days will effect Pettite more or less based on the style of pitcher he is vs his age. Mr Daddy ain't no spring chicken either. I think the Yanks should keep their bullpen on high alert from the start.

Maybe, but I think Sabbathia is used to it and he'll be fine if it goes seven. Petitte's a question mark on three days rest, but he often pitches his worst games when he feels too strong so maybe it'll be good for him. In any event, I have a feeling that the Yanks are due for a big scoring game either tonight or tomorrow if needed.

Well, you might get a best case scenario here. No rain is likely tonight, so the Phils will get Pettitte on 3 days rest. But then rain is likely tomorrow, so you might get that Lee versus CC matchup you're looking for on Friday.
On thing for sure, the Phils can't possibly pitch last year's WS MVP in game 7, if it goes that far.

Yeah, here's a plan to make baseball marginally relevant to my life again (and I'm sure that's in the long-term plans of baseball, to appeal to me): cut your ridiculous season in about half (maybe a nice even 100 game season), 4 team playoff and have the World Series over by the time the first football is in the air... Play from the first Tuesday in April to, let's say August 10, and then I'm sure they can get the World Series over by Labor Day.
Baseball in November? I've tried to watch, I really have, but how the hell can I enjoy this nonsense when I know Buffalo/Bowling Green is on ESPNU or CBS College Sports or Random Cable Network 274a?

Makes sense, until you consider the alternative, which is why the idea of rain is so attractive. Spahn and Sain and all that.

Maybe he is, but I remember last year when the Brewers got him and he had to pitch on three days rest a bunch to get them into the playoffs. He was lights out for a while there, but by the time he got to the playoffs, he wasn't at all the same and the Phillies pounded him.

Good call, DG. Hats off to you on that one and the Yankees for winning beating the defending "World Fucking Champions." Didn't turn out the way I wanted, but it was a damn fine Series.

I'll agree with a hats off to those damn yankees as they definitely showed heart and came up big when it counted, but I can't say it was a fine series. No extra inning games, only one game that was really suspenseful in the 9th (the fact that it sucked rocks being beside the point). Hard to be objective as a Phils fan of course, but most of the games were downright irritating to the point of excruciating.

I like the way the Series turned out, but I have to agree that it wasn't one of the more exciting, well-played, or memorable Series of my lifetime. But I'll take it!!!! -- ~ Seth Jackson

all through the regular season the Phils were so sharp on defense it was scary. To see them pull so many sloppy boneheaded moves during the playoffs, especially for a team with post-season experience, was just bizarre.
