I'm making my novel "The Day of the Nefilim" available for free download as an rtf file. This should make it easy for anyone who uses handhelds, ebook readers, etc. You can find out more, including see some reader reviews, at http://kale.110mb.com/nefilim/index.htm 100% free, no strings. /dminoz

That's still X hours out of our lives we wouldn't get back, if the book should happen to stink. One of the major functions of professional publishers and editors is to vouch for an unknown author; you may not like the book, but hopefully it won't be unbearable.
Checklist for what unbearable means in this context. About one screen down.

lol That's excellent, and very true. Of course you can usually tell if you want to read a book after a few pages, in which case it's not hours, but minutes.

If you'd hung around here a bit, and read the group's FAQ, you'd know that this kind of announcement is not often welcome in this group.
I'll say this: your post was brief, to the point, free of puffery, and given an appropriate subject line. You may as yet escape being flamed to a crisp. Some regulars in this group make an art form of making the poster of your type of request feel *extremely* unwelcome.
Please feel free to remain and contribute, but NOT to push your book. RASF* is a bit rough and tumble, but a lot of people here have a lot of interesting things to say.
rec.arts.sf.composition is more appropriate for learning writing sf.
BTW: Put up your first chapter as HTML. As it is, people have to download the whole thing to read it, and few will bother.
Understood about the flaming. Sorry if I broke the rules, although I'm too old and ugly to worry much about that. However, I'll keep my asbestos pantyliners handy.
In my defence, I wasn't so much promoting the book as making it available, if that makes sense. It's been around for a few years in print (in the past) and on Fictionwise (currently), but I'm over selling it, it's all old history for me now, and I just decided to set it free.
