I'm pretty sure cigarettes are a later convenience. Leaves could be
rolled up into cigars, but cigarettes need processed paper. I don't
think that (but I'm not sure) hashish or opium are from sources that
would be cigar-compatible, mostly those were/are smoked in pipes.

I got the impression it was eaten, not smoked in any modern fashion.
Gillian Bradshaw has the (Sermatian) protagonist throw hemp seeds on a
fire, in a tent, in her "Island of Ghosts", so that's a sort of smoke
inhalation, but nothing like modern pipes or cigarettes.

Enough bloods spouting might convince Mardi, right or wrong, that Shem
isn't waking up. However, as an experienced hunter, he probably does
make sure of his game.
Or not to mention his finishing off an unconscious foe. You may relish
that bit of detail and I may include it or not.

I've got a black-furred felinoid character that I tend to visualize as
white-furred. Both fur colours, and many other fur colours, exist within
the species, but this one *is* black-furred. I just find it a bit hard
to wrap my head around it.
(I'm pink-skinned, or "white", which probably is part of the explanation.)

Even I've read Ovid. (Well, some Ovid, in translation).
I wrote a song based on Ovid's version of the Phaethon myth, out of
Metamorphoses. I actually wrote it based on just what I remembered
reading once, and when someone complained that it wasn't a take that
they could see coming out of the version of the myth they knew, I had to
