I was looking at the numbers and if all the sponsors come together,
which i believe they will, we'll have a bit of access cash. So i
wanted to get your feedback on allocating perhaps RM500 from our
sponsorship fund to give away as prizes for the following 2
categories:
Best Speaker & Best Photograph.
For best speaker, we can do it American Idol Style via SMS voting or
even by filling out a simple form.
For best photograph i was thinking of getting it uploaded somewhere at
the venue to a PC which we can then turn into a slide show so everyone
can view it and vote for it - sounds a bit complicated but this is
what I've come up with so far- does anyone have a better idea?
Prizes
I was thinking of giving just cold hard cash as everyone prefers that
but do you guys have any suggestions?
I was hoping to finalize this by Monday so that i can blog about it
and the community can speard it. So you prompt reply with be much
appreciated.
I am not sure if cold hard cash might be an issue as prizes. Coz during I am
in society, we were told not to give cold hard cash as prices, normally
products or vouchers.
:) Anyone has any idea if it is an issue to give cash?

whAt if we just give recognition, just that, as a prize. publish the
best speaker face,, a summary of the speech, and reason why, on the
blog. in a way, unconference is somewhat romantic idea, shall we
continue the romance without bread?

adding on to the romance, we can exchange t-shirt, like in soccer. or
why not, get everyone's signature on a tshirt, and present to the best
speaker, photographer, and best participant. a combo of soccer spirit
+ peer recognition like in academia world. am I overly romantic?

I personaly think it's not that romantic winning nothing or a signed t
shirt as the best speaker or photographer, especially since we are
giving away an iPhone to the best blogger. I don't think the best
speaker/photographer would necessarily mind not winning anything but
since we are likely to have a decent surplus I don't see the point of
not giving anything unless we have a better idea on how to use the
access to the event in a more effective manner.
Ultimately I'll leave it to you guys to feedback on what best to do
but bear in mind we do have a surplus and we need to figure out what
best to do with it. I've posted the spread sheet in a differet thread
so do check it out and give suggestions. we are now providing dinner
and have set aside money for other misc expense so I thought some
prizes to give away might create some hype for the event and shows our
appreciation to the speakers

Yup,
i think the critical thing is what we gonna do with the xtra bit of cash
after the event ... and since we have it, we might as well put it to good
use for more hype and attention traction..
don't think we will have any concerns on association rules and regulations
coz we're not really one la... : ) so no worries there.
i'm all for giving it away as a cash prize, would be good for publicity...

I've no qualms with extra cash..heh heh.
I also like the idea of getting the participants to upload the pic
constantly at the event. Everyone/ anyone can partcipate-tat's most
important.
I can volunteer to setup the powerpoint and uploading the pics. I can
even settle the registration of this contest. He he..
I'll bring my laptop there just in case there isn't any other gadget
to showcase the entries. We'll loop the powerpoint.
