Q:I have invested 45000 each in Birla Dividend Yield Plus - D and HSBC Equity Fund - D in January 2008.The results are out for all to see.I only want to know, if it makes sense to continue holding on to these funds or should I book the short term capital loss. I still have managed to make some short term capital gains (thanks to your advice only) and I could use the loss to set off the gains.What do you suggest?

Clarification on Exit Load of Morgan Stanley Growth Fund

There have been a lot of queries from investors about the exit load for existing investors of Morgan Stanley Growth Fund (MSGF) post its open ending.

Please note that there will be no exit load for existing investors who remain invested in MSGF post 19th January 2009. Even if exit load is introduced in the scheme post its open ending, it will not be applicable to old investors but to investors who invest after the open ending of the scheme. Hence, for existing investors, it means that exiting now or after the open ending is one and the same thing as far as the applicability of exit load is concerned.

Q:I invested in july 2008 NFO of - ING optimix commodity fund and ING Latin America fund, but since the date of listing these funds are trading below their par value i.e. Rs 10. what should I do - hold it for long term or book losses so that i get atleast some money back?
A:I would advise you to book losses and invest in better opportunities elsewhere.The funds may give you average returns over the next 3 years, but in that time, you would miss out on much better opportunities that will give better and faster returns.
